Abstract

The object of the present paper is the English banking terminology. The objective of the article is the definition of the criteria of differentiating between polysemy and homonymy within the framework of terminology based on the study of polysemantic English banking terms. The article includes a brief survey of descriptions and definitions of polysemy and homonymy suggested by authoritative terminologists, studies various criteria of classifying homonyms, as well as investigates the main sources of polysemanticity in terminology.
